GOONJ BIHAR FLOOD RELIEF APPEAL

Dear Friends,

Here is a recent picture of Bihar inundated by one of the worst floods ever in recent history.

For many years now, GOONJ has been working extensively in Bihar through its grassroots partners, with a special focus on the annual floods. This is an URGENT APPEAL to join GOONJ in its campaign 'RAHAT FLOODS' to provide support to the victims of this unprecedented disaster. The situation is grim and millions of people are affected by the devastation. With a wide network of organizations and people present in most of the affected districts we are confident of reaching relief at the earliest possible. While the dispatch of material has already started the relief efforts will continue for the next few months.

A Developed World: The New Look

1st August 2008 marks the launch of our new logo, new website design and, of course, the August newsletter edition!

Our new logo is proudly designed by Shashank Nigam. It is accompanied by our new tagline and motto "Make it Happen" as voted by our friends and readers.

With the new look of www.adevelopedworld.com, there are many added features to improve navigation and overall user experience.

Now you can access stories about all the social entrepreneurs featured on A Developed World; either by the month of publication, by regions or by causes. The map on the homepage also allows you to quickly preview each article, simply by clicking on the pins.

After reading all these inspiring stories, you must be itching to take action. We have come up with 3 easy ways in which you can do this on A Developed World: (1) Nominate, (2) Spot Ideas, and (3) Join Us.

Go ahead and take your first steps with us. You will become part of a global community supporting the work of social entrepreneurs and their causes. You can also play a part in generating fresh momentum in social change, and finding new solutions to problems faced by society.

Enjoy the website and do give us your feedback and suggestions.

August Newsletter

This month, we feature 4 very different individuals – a former actor/model/athlete, a social worker, a yoga instructor, and an organic farmer – each with an unexpected story to tell.

In this issue, we also throw the spotlight on the "Day Off" Campaign in Singapore. Jointly organized by UNIFEM Singapore and 2 local NGOs (HOME and TWC2), the year-long campaign is a brave attempt to transform attitudes towards foreign domestic workers, and raise awareness about the problems they face.

We are hiring!

We are looking for passionate individuals to join our team. Check out the Careers section for details.
