We're seeking a talented User Experience (UX) web developer to join A Developed World family immediately. This individual will lead the user interface design and front-end platform development for our action-oriented website. Not only will you be able to improve your skills by solving cutting-edge technology problems, but gain useful experience with a fast-growing startup by being part of the initial tech team. This engagement will begin as a pro-bono contract of 3 months, with a possible extension or permanent hire offer to be evaluated after an initial evaluation is complete.

We encourage creative individuals of all school and professional experience levels to apply.  Candidates must be able to demonstrate visually appealing, crisp and highly-intuitive web design abilities, strong analysis and creative problem solving skills, and attention to detail. They must be comfortable working remotely, in an innovative and self-directed team environment and should be highly disciplined about meeting deadlines. Most importantly, the individual must be passionate about solving problems of the developing world.

Requirements

  1. Proficiency in core web development fundamentals, such as: XHTML/DHTML
  2. Expertise in CSS
  3. Proficiency in AJAX
  4. Comfortable with any of the Javascript libraries, like jQuery, Prototype etc
  5. Facebook/OpenSocial app or widget development

Desired
1.      Experience with Ruby on Rails
2.      Graphic design experience with tools like Flash, Photoshop etc.

Are you passionate about writing? Does the work of social entrepreneurs inspire you? Do you want to play a part in making the world a better place?

We're seeking an experienced writer to join the A Developed World team immediately to lead in the content creation for our action-oriented publication.  The writer will be responsible for identifying and interviewing potential social entrepreneurs from around the world, and then writing articles based on these interviews. These articles should be insightful and inspiring; spurring readers to act on the cause. This is a perfect opportunity if you're looking to gain writing experience in a pivotal role with a fast-growing start-up. This engagement will begin as a pro-bono contract of 3 months, with a possible extension or permanent hire offer to be evaluated after an initial evaluation is complete.

We encourage creative and analytical individuals of all professional experience levels to apply.  Candidates must be able to demonstrate strong interview skills as well as good analytical skills to write articles. The writing style must be concise and provocative – to prompt action. The individual must be comfortable working remotely, in an innovative and self-directed team environment and should be highly disciplined about meeting deadlines. Most importantly, the individual must be passionate about solving problems of the developing world.

Desired Qualities

  1. Background in Journalism, Development Studies, Economics, Business, Law, History, Social Sciences or other related disciplines.
  2. Interests in development issues, social entrepreneurship and international affairs.
  3. An excellent command of English and a passion for writing.
  4. Strong communication and interviewing skills.
  5. Ability to work independently and meet strict deadlines.
